You know the feeling when you hear a new single from a band that you’ve not heard of before and the track is that good you scramble through their Spotify in hope every other song is on the same level? Muttering to yourself, ”Who the fuck is this band? They’re from Melbourne? Am I out of touch?”
To cut a long story short, my new favourite band ‘To Octavia’ have a new single out and its called, ”They Tell Me They’re With Me.”
The hometown heavy-hitters unaware to me, burst onto the scene in mid 2018 with the release of their debut single, ”After All” and a year later followed up with a well received EP ‘Nocturnal‘ which earned plays on Triple j and 250,000 streams on Spotify – while also supporting Thornhill, Windwaker, Alpha Wolf, SECRETS, Wither, and many more.
All under my oblivious, fat nose….
‘To Octavia’s’ new single, ‘They Tell Me They’re With Me’ erupts with aggressive, melodic, dark, emotional force. Hefty unclean vocals track the hard hitting verses accompanied by an elevating singalong chorus lyrically detailing the struggles of loneliness that come with the reality of the people closest to you not knowing you at all.
”Tell me, did you forget my face?
Can you see me still? Am I all over the place?
Tell me, do you still have a light?
Or did you lose it when you lent it out to somebody else last night?
They tell me they’re with me and I’ll be alright
But I’m done with feeling like I am alone in the night.”
‘To Octavia’ are severely underrated. If you’re big fans of Polaris, The Plot in You or even Northlane look no further – this is the band for you. My finger is on the pulse of this group and I hope I can get to the upcoming show.
Along with the single release, the group is set to support The Brave on their upcoming national tour, which will take the band to,
- Sydney’s Crowbar on Friday March 6,
- Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Friday March 13,
- Adelaide’s Crown and Anchor on Saturday March 14
- Brisbane’s The Foundry on Saturday April 4
