The Amity Affliction -Catatonia (single)

”What’s one more day a week a month a fucking year,
If I’m constantly shrouded by nothing but fear.”

Joel Birch brutally tears his esophagus out on The Amity Affliction’s newest single ‘Catatonia’. The new record will be their first since announcing their signing to Pure Noise Records and the Third song from Amity’s upcoming seventh album, Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them due to be released on Feb 21.

‘Catatonia’ follows up singles ‘All My Friends Are Dead‘ and ‘Soak Me In Bleach‘. The pair have me tickled pink in anticipation for the album, now even more with the release of Catatonia. A tennis match of merciless and melodic vocals creates a perfect balance for new and old fans. Ahren Stringer’s vocals seem less produced than in the 2018 album ‘Misery’ and I personally prefer this – that last album STUNK apart from IVY. Joel’s [Birch] unclean callous vocals give me actual chills and shares similar tones of the ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ album.

“If you listen carefully, you’ll hear this is a sister track to ‘All My Friends Are Dead,'” said singer Ahren Stringer. “We wrote it to bookend the album and keep it heavy fuckin’ metal. Lyrically, I think it ties the whole theme of the album together and wraps up what Joel [Birch] is trying to get across. Even though everything might seem perfect from the outside, sometimes being broken on the inside can never truly be fixed.”

Lyrics scream,

Let’s go, I’m all ears
You wanna help me?
Let’s go, I’m not scared
Death is final, I don’t care

Why does this song make me want to rip peoples faces off? Is the rest of ‘Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them” going to be this brutal?
I fucking hope so, but i’ll gladly avoid the mosh pit at any upcoming shows.
